The Eternal City has its own set of useful help files, both on the main website and in the game. To access the game's help files on healing, type ?healing. Below are the help files from the game on the skill actions.
The first thing that you must do is get your patient to sit
or lay down. This is not always an easy task. Once you have
settled your patient, focus your attention on them. To do
this, you HEAL that person. (HEAL LUTHAL). HEAL will give
you a quick overview of the parts of that person's body that
need tending to, and alert you to any life-threatening
situations.
Once you have HEALed someone, you no longer need to add their
name to healing commands. Typing HEAL with no name after it
tells you who your current patient is.
The rest of the healing commands deal with specific body
parts. To get a more detailed description of a body part, you
can DIAGNOSE it. (DIAGNOSE LEFT SHOULDER) The more training
you have, the more information a successful diagnosis will
give you. Diagnosis is not strictly necessary to treat a wound,
but it is strongly recommended that you diagnose every wounded
body part.
Most wounds will require only cleaning and bandaging to heal.
Severe slashing wounds may require stitches, and broken limbs
must be set.
ALIGN
syntax: align <limb name | torso>
Minor bonesetting will fix a broken limb or bind broken ribs,
to help them to heal. You must first diagnose a patient before
setting a minor broken bone.
APPLY
syntax: apply <substance> [to] <body part>
Salves, for example, will help a burn to heal. You must first
diagnose a patient before applying something to a limb.
BANDAGE
syntax: bandage <body part> with bandage
Bandaging a wounded part (after it has been cleaned) starts
the healing process. You must first diagnose your patient
before bandaging a part.
CUT
syntax: cut bandages [from] <body part>
cut stitches [from] <body part>
cut tourniquet [from] <body part>
cut splint [from] <body part>
Cut lets you remove bandages or stitches from a formerly
wounded body part once you judge it to be healed. You must
first diagnose a patient before removing bandages or stitches.
DIAGNOSE
syntax: diagnose <body part>
The diagnose command gives you more information about any
wounded body part that you have noticed using HEAL (person).
FEED
syntax: feed <item> [to] <patient>
This command lets you feed healing herbs or other items to a
passive or unconscious person.
PASSIVE
syntax: passive
This command relaxes your defenses, allowing people greater
access to you. Note that while this is helpful with a healer,
becoming passive with an enemy is a bad idea.
ROUSE
syntax: rouse <person> [with] salts
Rouse lets you wake up an unconscious person. You do not need
to diagnose a target, but you do need salts.
SPLINT
syntax: splint <body part> [with] <any longish item>
Applying a splint to an aligned bone will keep the bone in
place while it sets. Remember to align the limb before you
splint it.
STITCH
syntax: stitch <body part> with thread
Stitching halts the flow of blood from a bad slash wound. You
must first diagnose a patient before stitching a wound.
TIE
syntax: tie <body part> [with] bandage
This places a tourniquet on a bleeding limb, temporarily
stopping the bleeding until the person can be helped.
